Sulawesi style Tablet weaving

In Sulawesi you form pairs of 2 cards, both ZZ or SS, that always turn together (below, card 2-3, 4-5, etc). Also, you always do 2 picks before you change turning direction of the cards.

I have used the Tablet Weaving Draft Designer (TWDD) to illustrate my designs and the turning diagrams. Below is a description of the card naming, turning diagram and S vs. Z threading (always alternating SS, ZZ, SS, etc). I also included 2 designs for 32 cards (octopus and squirrel) and 2 designs for 24 cards (bird and rooster). The full set of 44 designs are available for a small fee.

Please feel free to check out the Tablet Weaving Draft Designer. It is an excellent resource for making your own designs.

If you would like to draw your own designs, please check my short tutorial on How to design your own Sulawesi motifs for tablet weaving.

Note: When you start weaving, the cards should be aligned with A and D on top, with D closest to you. C and B should be at the bottom, towards the “floor”. The A-D markings should be facing to the right when starting to weave.

Below are some examples from “Creatures in Squares”, with turning diagrams for 2 designs for 32 cards (16 pairs) and 2 designs for 24 cards (12 pairs).
