A blog about tablet weaving and how to design your own belts.

Month: January 2022

The Silk weave is off the loom

I finished this belt quite fast. I really like to weave in silk, since it is very smooth. However, on the down side, the threads are brittle and wear easily during weaving. Well, here it is.

I thought of this “horses” pattern (to the left) while weaving, and I really like how it turned out. I also tried some new “creatures in squares” for 24 cards.

The silk yarn and some details.

The other design elements are mostly my own. Some I have tried before and some not, but I have lost track. I have hundreds of designs and sketches in my folders and I never took note of what I tried or not. If you would like the turning pattern of anything not on the design page, please contact me (the contact page is not always working though, please use the e-mail adress).

Creatures in squares

As some of you may know, I have created quite a few patterns on the theme “creatures in squares”. Here is a small sample of some of them. I am still experimenting on the context and new patterns.

Some of them can be found in my design section.

More silk weaving

I warped up this band in silk, and I just love the soft feel of it when weaving. So a sneak preview…

I also have a new page with a gallery of some of my work, here.

Changing background.

I loved this color combination of blue, red and yellow in Mora garn (a swedish, quite thin, weaving wool yarn). However, when I started weaving I was a bit disapointed how it turned out. The blue and red transformed to purple when viewing it from a distance. So I decided to inverse the motiv color and the background color (by weaving 2 more picks forward (4 forward), so the starting position was B and C upp, instead of down. Then I changed back after each design element. Have a look below.

I also tried some floats in the center of a flower pattern (to the right on the 1st picture). I also did the original for comparasion (left on the 1st picture). Turning diagram in the design section.

Below are some of the designs, and I am super happy with the kangaroo! Turning diagram can be found in the design section.

Some other animals – reindeers, horses and an octopuss.

I am quite fond of the reversed colors with the blue as design color:
