I have to admit that the weaving with 6-hole cards required a lot of concentration, so after weaving a bit, I decided to change to regular 4 hole cards, cutting out 2 threads. The results is below. The 4 hole is nothing spectacular, but more relaxing to weave. I took the opportunity to weave some designs I drew 3-4 years ago but didn’t really test, mainly various dragons and keltic knots.

The belt I talked about in my last blog post is finally finished. I am happy with how the gradient turned out and I had quite some comments on the “fire” aspect. I like how the fire is flanked by “water” from the blue border.
I have also been drawing quite a few alternative designs lately. I could not weave them all, but at least some of them. I will add the weaving diagrams asap here on my page for 24 card designs.
Now to the pictures:
I just finished a new belt, woven in Sulawesi (as usual), but in 100% silk. The photos doesn’t give justice to the subtile shiny surface and the very soft feeling, but the feel of it is nice. I am a big fan of wool, but occasionally, silk is great too.
I have used 32 motif cards +6 border cards. Some of the designs are uploaded in my designs page and I plan to add some more, since I have tested some new variants and also how doubling up on some 16-card motivs can look like.
Kalle the Cat agreed to do some modeling…
I cannot stop weaving my beloved “creatures in squares” whenever I have a 32 card weave on the loom. To the left, octopus and swan and to the right a collection of dogs.
Various pictures of the belt. The light makes a big difference on the colors though.
I will upload some new designs on my designs page, or you can download them directly below.
I loved this color combination of blue, red and yellow in Mora garn (a swedish, quite thin, weaving wool yarn). However, when I started weaving I was a bit disapointed how it turned out. The blue and red transformed to purple when viewing it from a distance. So I decided to inverse the motiv color and the background color (by weaving 2 more picks forward (4 forward), so the starting position was B and C upp, instead of down. Then I changed back after each design element. Have a look below.
I also tried some floats in the center of a flower pattern (to the right on the 1st picture). I also did the original for comparasion (left on the 1st picture). Turning diagram in the design section.
Below are some of the designs, and I am super happy with the kangaroo! Turning diagram can be found in the design section.
Some other animals – reindeers, horses and an octopuss.
I am quite fond of the reversed colors with the blue as design color:
I started a new belt, and this time I really love how the colors come together. I am also trying some new designs of animals, real or imaginary.
I am happy to present you my elk/moose couple!
I am still quite fond of various leaves and how they can be combined with swirles and other elements.
Then of course some more birds, the variations seem endless…
I will add turning schemes to the design page soon.
Happy weaving!
If you have checked out my page on how to draw your own designs, you can read and understand the below scheme.
I drew this design only last week, and I really like how it turned out.
I plan to uploading some more designs next to the result. It really gives a good illustration on how some simple lines on a piece of paper can turn into hanging fruits or flowers.
I feel quite inspired, so I decided to put up another one as well. Here we go. I am not sure what to call this one though. “Futuristic fruit” maybe.
Well, well, enough for today. Good night from Saga.
I have drafted and uploaded a tutorial for how to easily make your own designs for weaving using the Sulawesi style.
Please check it out in the menu section and let me know if it needs improvement.
